I get an error on startup :error occurred in DLL.and then says it's probably visual c++ runtime install which has failed, then it exits.
I'm running a core i7 win7 pro 64bit OS
I've verified .net 2,3,3.5,4 client and 4 full all ok
re installed visual c++2010 and rebooted
still the same problem.
no logs in the installation directory and no logs in windows event logs

In all cases where we've seen this in-house it has been cleared by a reboot.

One thing that you could additionally verify is to try install the latest DirectX redistributable, here;

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downlo...

Also another way this error could come up is if your video card is not DX10 compatible. What video card are you using?

I've been running my DX10 games quite happily (skyrim)
I'm running a 1gb ATI 6670, with Catalyst 10.8
I ran the link you sent and it said that DX was already installed.(as expected)

Catalyst 10.8 is very old, did you by any chance typo 12.8 as 10.8 or have you tried updating the drivers?

Iv'e tried re-installing as well:--
Uninstalled 3dmark,
Rebooted,
Cleared out directory,
Installed 3dmark via steam again
Rebooted again.
Same problem.

Hmm... Can you test if 3DMark 11 (Demo) works on your system or if it also has similar issues?

(Available on Steam, just click the download demo button on 3DMark 11 store page)

If that runs, it helps narrow down the potential cause quite a bit.

fixed the problem by maunally installing the basic version from the website, then finding out i needed PhysX-9.12.0613-SystemSoftware installed, not having a nvida card it wasn't, so i installed it and 3dmark as supplied via steam now works, thanks for your help.

Strange that the Steam version install of PhysX somehow failed. It really should install it. Glad it got sorted.

I have this same problem, but installing the PhysX drivers did not work. I have all the pre-requisite software, including the latest video drivers from AMD, installed. I keep getting the C++ runtime box. I have reinstalled and rebooted several times.

"An error occurred while initializing 3DMark.

Error occured in DLL. (Not my typo!)

If you encounter this error immediately after installing 3DMark Vantage, it is likely that the required Visual C++ runtime install hasn't fully completed and you need to reboot Windows. If the problem persists even after a reboot, contact FUturemark Support.

If this is with 3DMark Vantage, this error comes up when your system needs to be rebooted after install.

Once you have rebooted the system, it should then work.

Edit: oops, looks like you have rebooted. In that case I suggest trying a manual install of the Visual C++ runtimes found in 3DMark Vantage directory (under steam folders)

And to clarify, the file in question is here;

*your steam folder*\steamapps\common\3DMark Vantage\support\

vcredist_x86.exe

This is the missing bit that your system hasn't installed properly for some reason.

I was able to at least get it to run. I completely uninstalled the AMD driver, rebooted, went into Device Manager, uninstalled it again and cliked the checkbox for uninstall software, as well. Rebooted again. Reinstalled the display driver. The VC++ runtime was already installed.

Now, I can run the software, but I can run any tests.

"System Info scan failed. Can't run benchmark."

After I close that window, I get another error.

"Error occured in DLL.
Error type: std::exception
Error message: System Info component has failed. The main worker thread has encountered an error."

I wish I knew why I keep running into these errors. This is a fairly recent install of Windows 7 x64 and this is the only Steam application that I'm getting errors with. :(

If this is a fresh install, would be good to verify that all Windows Updates are in place.

The error in question would imply that Futuremark SystemInfo is not properly installed

You can download and install the latest stand-alone version of this component from here;

http://www.futuremark.com/downloads/F...

..in case that solves this issue. If not, I would suggest verifying from msconfig (type "msconfig" in search box and run it) that SystemInfo service is not disabled.

All right. That seems to have done it. There might have been something conflicting with the old install of the video driver.

Looks good!
Thank you!
