This is CyberGamer's request for a modification of the game mode: Assault, which can be used for competition. Also included is a list of required features that most competitions require.

Game Mode:
Assault (modified)

In Assault, teams must attack or defend a series of linear objectives.

The team who first attacks then defends, and attempts to defend for the entire time they attacked. If they can accomplish this, they win the map. If the team defending first assaults the base faster than the other team, they win the map.
If both teams defend for the maximum amount of time the game is a tie and the game restarts for overtime; another round each to assault and defend.

Timer: 15 minutes maximum to capture all objectives.

Spawn timer: 15 seconds

Spawn Points:
Spawn points typically follow these rules:

* Objective A: Both teams have even distanced spawn locations. This allows the game to start from a even stance.
* Objective B: Defending team typically has a further distanced spawn location. This punishes mistakes on the defending team, as objectives can be easily taken by capitalising on mistakes.
* Objective C: Defending team typically has a further distanced spawn location. But objective is placed in an easily defendable position.

Grenades limited to: 1x EMP, 1x Ice, 2x MPR

Features required:

* Record
* Spectate (admin \ caster)
* Ready-up
* Discard \ dead round (adjustable timed rounds before the match and at half time)
* CVARs:
mp_gren_ice_max
mp_gren_grn_max
mp_gren_emp_max
mp_readyup
mp_pause

Non-essential requested features:

* Small dot crosshair
* Spectate view for Admin\Caster showing all player names and health status
* SH:TV support

Thanks for the comprehensive list of features this suggestion requires. We currently have a modified version of the Assault game mode under consideration. It's "stopwatch" so capture times are compared in case of a draw. We can also implement different spawn points and/or times if necessary, and a tiebreaker round.

We've discussed the following features on your list:

- Spectator mode (including player status view)
- Warm-up round = "Discard \ dead round"?

These features need to be estimated for workload:

- Grenade limits as a server side option
- Ready-up (meaning nn% of clients must set ready status before round starts?)
- Pause (meaning a true game pause option for the admin during rounds, an automatic pause if players drop out, countdown pause or something else?)
- Replay recording
- SH:TV game broadcasting

The "warm up" round would ideally be a non-timed period at the start and half time of every match. Players would be free to move about and shoot each other but no scoring would take place.
Each player has a "ready up" key, eg CTRL, which changes their status from "not ready" to "ready". When all players are ready the match begins.

Pause should be a "player request \ accept feature."
If a member of one team disconnects then another member on that team can goto the menu and "request pause". The other team sees this request and one of their players can "accept pause".
The match is then paused for all players (no one can move, shoot etc, but still able to chat).
To resume the game the teams can "request \ accept resume".
Competition administrators can set their own rules for maxium discard time etc.

Also, locked servers \ matches should NOT be tracked for player stats.

Assault is so heavily biased towards defense. It would seem to me that the average comp game would consistently end in a draw with arbitrary stats breaking ties all the time... basically using statistical values to determine which defending team raped the attackers best.

Modifications to BATTLE mode would seem to be the intuitive choice for Competitive games using a best of 3 or best of 7 (ect) modification.

Von_Schpam did you even read the idea?
It is not heavily biased towards defense - read the section about spawn points that mf- detailed.
How will there be "consistent draws" when it's time based? I don't think teams will assault in EXACTLY the same time :p

I was referring to the original version of Assault. Your idea attempts to fix something that I feel is ill suited for the desired purpose to begin with. "Battle" is closer to a workable mode for competitive play with less tinkering.

UT classic, RTCW, ET have all proven the timed assault mode. Battle would be too disjointed with these large maps. It'd be like bf2 3v3 on 64p maps...

I know a lot of teams are ready to go but are waiting on these features being implemented. Not many are interested in scrimming on a game that isn't ready for ladders & leagues.
IMHO these features have to come first.
