Servers disappearing from server browser

I'm having issues with the server browser where after all the servers are scanned, a fair few servers will disappear from the server list a second or two later.

I can see all the servers I've added to my favourites without this issue. It only seems to appear on the main server list. It seems to be an issue with the automatic refresh.

I have this problem as well, but usually not all servers disappear, only a few.

Up until recently, I thought it was a server scan bug, i.e. the servers that disappeared were ones initally falsely reported high up in the list. But today I managed to add a server that I knew would disappear once the scan was finished to my favorites before the scan was complete. Then I went to favorites and it was still there. I joined it and played with no hitch.

What's really bad is that these are often half-full servers that disappear. This one today was even an official FM EU server. When I waited until the scan was complete, the server browser incorrectly showed only one single populated server!

In other words: The player base looks a lot worse through the server browser than it actually is! I don't know how many times I have shut the game off again because I thought there was nobody there when in fact the server scan had just dropped servers again from the list.

wasoota mine was doing that when I first got the game, which later got worse and became the full server list drop bug.

I've practically stopped playing because of it, and looking at the numbers online I'd say I'm far from the only one.

How is the fix progressing FM? Got a rough timeframe?

It's a shame, I pretty much stopped playing because of this bug too. It's hard enough to find a populated server without the list disappearing entirely randomly.

It is a pain. To be completely honest, I'm fixated on BFBC2 at the moment, but if this is reducing SH numbers then I'm not surprised (steam ping me (same id) if any BFBC2 squad interest...)

Patch 1.1.0.15 has been released: http://www.yougamers.com/forum/showth...

And appears to address this issue on my end, fixed for anyone else?

Doesn't seem to fix it for me. If anything, it makes things worse as it makes all servers disappear after a few seconds while never getting to "Server scan complete".

No fix. The problem is significantly worse for me now - many times the server list never appears at all. I need to refresh about ten times before about four servers pop up, and then a few more times to get a decent list (which still dissapears). Futuremark, I most likely wont be playing this again until the issue is completely resolved. I love the game, I love your business, but this is just silly.

I don't buy the idea that "the vast majority" of players aren't having this issue either. Numbers have been steadily decreasing for some time, right now there are a total of six players online on servers I don't have a good enough ping to play on. When the number of people complaining is more than the number of people online you've got an issue.

Sorry for the double post...

FM, can't you just remove the system that removes a server from the list when it can't be reached altogether? Surely that would fix the problem with minimal cost. Clicking on a server to find that it no longer exists is far less frustrating than not being able to play at all. I doubt most players would notice the change.

I'm suffering from the same problem and no patch fixed it so far.
I'm with Robert Smith on this one: If the number of people complaining about this bug is higher than the amount of active users playing this is certainly no longer a niche problem, especially one that can be ignored for this long.
In my experience most people simply stop bothering instead of going out of their way to complain about a bug.
This is bug is probably not the sole reason why player-numbers are so ridiculously low but it's probably contributing to the situation.

Hmm, something happened to me inbetween the .14 patch and the .15 patch that caused this problem to go away for me..

I had Windows 7 installed to my HDD while I was RMAing my SSD array, got it back, installed it, set up Win7, steam, and SH.. none of my hardware or firmwares changed (except the SSD array) - I did upgrade the video card driver and SSD array driver to the latest version, though.

Anyway, it seems this problem MUST be software related, as now the issue is completely gone on my end. Unfortunately I have no idea what I did to fix it! One thing - I haven't disabled Windows Firewall yet.. I wonder if that makes a difference. I'm off to test a few things now, hopefully I come up with something. Maybe I can figure out how to break it again...

Why on earth would you disable the Windows firewall anyways?

Reverting to the old Steam UI seems to have fixed the problem for me. However at this point it looks like virtually nobody plays anymore, so I guess it doesn't really matter.

Well, me and 25 others were playing at the time of your post - so you might have the issue that you also don't see all servers...

That's definitely possible. But really, that isn't very many people, is it?

@futuremark: I'm thinking the next content pack should involve some kind of SP, because there's no player base left for MP... I hate to say it. I really hate to say it actually, I freaking love this game and it utterly sucks to see it dying like this.

Well, I did have this problem - but usually had the list come up for a few seconds. As long as I filtered by player number, I could connect to a server. Unfortunately, I no longer get any list at all, endlessly stuck on refresh with no results! This happened in the last day or two.

-No hardware changes
-Just had a steam update (using the beta ui)
-Just dl'd a few windows security updates (win7 x64)
-"history" and "favorites" tabs on the server browser still work

I've had no luck changing the steam download rate or region, or playing with the "CafeRate" registry string as suggested on various forum posts

**Edit** Looks like I was wrong, just takes a long while for the list to come up now. But it does eventually show up. Sorry.

We had this issue yesterday with our in-house testing lab and deletion of masterserver.vdf solved the issue. Here is more on that;

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_a...

You can try either just deleting the file and restarting steam, or replacing it with the one mentioned in the article.

The problem has resolved itself for me. Solution: connecting directly through my modem and removing the router from the equation. Replacing the masterserver file didn't work for me.

UPDATE: Firepower Pack adds two new options in sh.settings file:

string_settings
{
...
server_browser_default_filters true
server_browser_refresh_interval 0.1
}

If "server_browser_default_filters" is set to "false", all SH servers are listed even if they have not responded to a ping or are incorrect versions. If it's set to "true", old servers and servers that do not respond to pings are filtered away (the default mode). So, if server browser appears empty, setting this to "false" might help.

"server_browser_refresh_interval" sets the delay between each ping that is sent to individual server. Increasing this number might help with some slow routers.

Please report if Firepower update and/or these additional settings help fix the issue.

I think that was one of my suggestions - thank you very much for doing that :D

The problem hasn't really been an issue for me recently but it should certainly help some folks stuck behind crazy hardware.

Just started Shattered Horizon today for the first time since the update and the server browser is working perfect again for me. So, the Firepower update seems to have fixed my problem.

Have you tried adding the filters false flag to the sh.settings (see the top for the best reply)?
